Abstract

This paper aims to identify the semantic field of belief in Vico's Scienza nuova, through the philological and philosophical analysis of meanings and signifiers. We will therefore try to reconstruct the relationship between fiction and knowledge, truth and verisimilitude, invention and reality, to shed light on the Vico gnoseological process, starting from the parallel between children and the first men. There will also be appropriate references to Vico’s other texts and to some Freudian reflections.
