We publish below all the materials (reader’s score by Rosario Diana; musical score by Lucio Miele; stage design by Nera Prota, with Rebecca Carlizzi,, Arianna Acanfora, Simona La Monica) relating to the staging of Shipwreck: a performance already staged in Naples (but in a reduced and “ecological” form, without the use of any instrumentation) on 10 September 2021 in the Roman Theatre of the Pausilypon Eco-Archeological Park; then reproposed – again in Naples – on 21 and 22 November 2024, at the Domus Ars Centre, with a new staging that is more “technological” and suited to the space in which it was staged. The work – based on tragic events actually experienced – wants to “show” in their typical features (typical because they are unfortunately repeated) some forms of suffering suffered by the migrants of our time. The title of the oratorio allusively combines two different shipwrecks: that of those who found death during their journey and that of Europe in the face of the epoch-making phenomenon of migration.

Music for Oratorio
musical score
Lucio Miele
Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Martucci” di Salerno
The score, which appears here in the rough version used for the performance, is for the most part a functional canvas to define and place the musical interventions in the course of the performance. As will be seen, it follows the reader's score of the oratorio.

Seeking a Formal Look at Diversity
Nera Prota
Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli
This article describes the work methodology adopted in designing the set design for the play Naufragio. Nomi e immagini dal dolore dei migranti, written and directed by Rosario Diana. In particular, it shows how the design stems from a historical-artistic reflection that relates the cultural shock that was brought about by colonialism, in both indigenous and western cultures, between the late 1800s and early 1900s, with the phenomena of cultural standardisation typical of the contemporary era.

From Scenography as a Trace of What Happened to a Symbol of Otherness
Rebecca Carlizzi
Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli
The article offers an account of the collaborative activities between Ispf-Cnr and the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, which I was involved in, as part of a long research journey with Rosario Diana and Nera Prota that began in 2016. The article attempts to reconstruct, in the various examples given, the methodology adopted for designing in unconventional theatrical spaces.

The Trait as Identity
Arianna Acanfora
Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli
The article is intended as a restitution of the design experience carried out as part of the scenographic project for the show Naufragio. Nomi e immagini dal dolore dei migranti, written and directed by Rosario Diana. In particular, the importance of the relationship between personal identity and graphic design is analysed. The article includes a catalogue of the 13 ‘masks’ made by the set design team for Naufragio.

This article emphasises the importance of the role of art, particularly theatre, in celebrating difference as a positive value. The article describes some phases of the design work carried out for the play Naufragio. Nomi e immagini dal dolore dei migranti, written and directed by Rosario Diana, and summarises the sources of inspiration we referred to when designing the set design.

Starting from a recent science art exhibition, the article carries out some reflections around the intertwining of science and art and the need for them to continue, or rather resume, a dialogue in order to make an increasingly adequate contribution to the challenges of contemporary reality.
