Abstract

The following remarks highlight the richness of Chris Wickham’s new interpretation of the Mediterranean economy, paying particular attention to the spaces subjected to Islam during the 10th-12th centuries. After emphasizing the breadth and quality of this vast study, as well as the author’s remarkable erudition, they question the relevance of the regions studied and suggest only a few clarifications concerning al-Andalus, while regretting the lack of importance given to the Western Maghreb.
