the paper proposes a critical analysis of the model of simultaneous election of the Prime minister and of the Houses of Parliament, as defined by the project of constitutional reform set forth by the Italian Government in the Senate’s Act no. 935. This analysis is conducted also by making some suggestions from a comparative perspective. Behind such transformations it is possible to see - before a mere modification of the relations between governmental bodies – a problematic redefinition of some essential traits of the very idea of representative democracy
