Abstract

Abstract

The reuse of abandoned or underused religious architectural heritage represents in Italy and Europe a topic of great attention and debate. The proposed contribution analyzes the relationships between the protection and conservation instances related to the possible social use of this heritage. Which is the common denominator that emerges in initiatives involving the components of the ‘third sector’ as the proponents or the asset managers? The goal is to understand which is the degree of compatibility to the new functions, taking care to analyze the different types of design in cases of adaptive reuse aimed at both enhancement and inclusion. The case studies identified in Turin (Italy) are all of recognized historical value, owned by religious bodies in which the management of the structure is entrusted to the ‘third sector’.
