Abstract

Article english title: Attribution and Change of Odonyms in Budapest. Part 2: Since the Second Orbán Government

This paper focuses on the main characteristics of the last period of the history of Budapest’s odonyms beginning with the inauguration of the second Orbán government. The (re)denominations of the odonyms have continued to (re)modeling the linguistic panorama of Budapest and often they are expressions of culture, power, and political crystallizations as well as places of memory. My aim is to investigate, through the Linguistic Landscape approach and more specifically through critical toponymy, the processes and motivations that are the basis of the (re)denominations of the public spaces of Budapest with particular reference to the commemorative ones and to analyze the introduction and cancellation of values, of historical characters or events and/or of other toponyms in urban texts. Particular attention will also be paid to the question of gender, that is to the odonyms that introduce important references to women in the linguistic panorama of the capital.
