This contribution, through a thematic analysis based on inner intertextuality, explores the choral element in a collection of mythological lyric prose pieces by Marguerite Yourcenar (Feux), characterized by the alternation between a lyric self, through a sentimental journal, and mythological tales based on those of the Greek heroines. Some of these stories are often used in theatrical contexts as isolated monologues. This theatrical choice might lead to consider Feux as a set of lyric fragments which are autonomous and extractable from their context; this article, however, aims to illustrate the purely choral element of the nine tales, making the work’s structure much more complex and at the same time more unitary.
